Project Synopsis

The STIHL Showroom Solution is an interactive app that allows employees and dealers to create a STIHL retail space simply by dragging and dropping products categories. The goal was to help dealers understand the options available to figure out how much footage they needed to dedicate to STIHL products within their showroom. Dealers could also email their ideas to their STIHL representative to share their thoughts visually.

Process

Problem & Business Goal

The STIHL sales and merchandising teams struggled when it was time to order displays for new retail shops. Often wall measurements were incorrect and substantial obstructions were missed causing displays to be ordered incorrectly. The team and I developed a clear goal for how a new website would help STIHL Retailers understand how to merchandise power equipment properly.

A New Process

Because the STIHL team had not created a website before, we formed a process that included timing, budget, and revisions. We also hired an illustrator, Brant Johnson, to accurately represent the STIHL line, then a development agency to create the online tool, Media Boom.

Wireframe and Design

Developed multiple wireframe concepts to help sell in the various ways the website could function. Once the team and I decided on the best functionality, the website was designed following STIHL style guidelines.

Development and Test

All content, including text, photography, and illustrations, was handed to Media Boom for the initial build. Then, after minimal rounds of testing and feedback, the website was launched. The Sales and merchandising teams were thankful to have a tool that helped them visually communicate with STIHL dealers on the best way to create their power equipment displays. Dealers were happy to see all the options available and felt they made better store design choices.
