St. Charles Public Library
Project Synopsis
The St. Charles Public Library (SCPL) requested proposals for a newly redeveloped website that is easier to use and helps its patrons find what they are looking for quickly.
Additionally, SCPL wanted its website to be simple enough to update for its staff. I took the time to analyze the current SCPL website, social media, SEO, as well as research how other libraries present themselves online.
The goals of SCPL and its patrons were then aligned to develop a comprehensive content strategy, complete with a reorganized website, a new publication process, and Key Performing indexes to measure success.
Process
St. Charles Public Library offers a lot of programming, but its patrons don’t know what’s available and have a hard time finding what they are looking for.
From analyzing the current SCPL website, social media, SEO, and accessibility, it was found a much simpler layout and color palette with stronger Calls To Action would benefit the library and its patrons. Additional areas of opportunity include more robust page titles and meta descriptions to help patrons find library happening through a Goggle search.
A complete content strategy was developed that included high priority on navigation, more concise writing, and in-depth filtering- all to help patrons find library information easier. Additionally, to align library goals with its patrons’ needs, all of the SCPL opportunities ladder up to the core strategy statement:
To make library resources easy to find, we will provide a clean, user-friendly website for all library patrons when looking for information, entertainment, and local happenings.
